Dr. Susie Lang Gould
Dr. Susie Lang-Gould is the Director of Peace Portal Counselling Centre, where she serves as a leader, counsellor, supervisor, parent consultant, and speaker. She is privileged to walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate both the joy-filled moments and the challenges of life. Her passion is to create safe, meaningful connections in which people feel seen, heard, and understood. Through this connection, individuals can find healing, hope, and the freedom to grow into who they are meant to be.
Susie holds a PhD and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Fielding University, as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS) in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. With over 25 years of counselling experience, she has worked in private practice, public and independent school settings, and with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. She has completed intensive trainings in Internal Family Systems (Level 1), EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Play and Expressive Arts Therapy.
As an experienced school counsellor, RCC, and parent, Susie understands the importance of fostering healthy relationships between parents and their children or adolescents. In 2012, she completed the Advanced Program with the Gordon Neufeld Institute, which enabled her to facilitate The Vital Connection parent education series. Her work with families has given her the privilege of supporting parents in building secure attachments with their children.
Supervision has become a significant and meaningful part of Susie’s career. Since 2019, she has served on the BCACC Clinical Supervision Committee, where she has contributed to the regulation of Approved Clinical Supervisors (ACS) and supported the development of the Supervisor of Supervisors (SoS) designation. She is also a seasoned adjunct professor in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program, supervising both practicum and internship students. She continues to supervise RCCs and RSWs in their clinical development.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, Susie brings a unique perspective as a lifelong athlete. She has been ranked among Canada’s senior top ten long-distance runners and tennis players and has represented Team Canada at the World Senior Championships. These experiences have given her a deep appreciation for the mental, emotional, and relational aspects of high-level sport. Susie integrates this background into her practice, offering support in sports psychology for athletes seeking to enhance performance, strengthen resiliency, navigate competition stress, or find balance between sport and personal well-being.
A lifelong learner, Susie is continually engaged in research and writing on relevant counselling topics. She enjoys sharing this knowledge through workshops and presentations. Over the years, she has presented to teams, schools, organizations, and community groups on topics such as Social Media and Mental Health, Building Resilience, Relational Leadership, StrengthsFinder, Non-Violent Communication, Understanding Anxiety, Healthy Relationships, Making Sense of Adolescence, The Heart of Parenting, and Clinical Supervision.
